Philosophical dive 2003

240cm×25cm×60cm / Cane, Iron
I've lived away from Japan for a long while, but when I looked at it from an objective point of view, I saw that
Japanese people work too much. The significance of using precious time wisely has been usurped by labor
productivity and efficiency, and there seems to be a domination of a slave-like mentality in which humans
have lost their dignity. This piece was born when karoshi (death from overwork) became acknowledged as
a societal problem. Rattan weaved into a coffin shape.
